Metro Roof Cleaning for Lasting Protection

The safest method is usually soft washing or another low-pressure cleaning approach matched to the roof material and condition. Rather than blasting the surface with high pressure, the process uses appropriate cleaning solutions and gentle rinsing to address algae, moss, lichen, and mildew. This helps preserve shingles, tiles, flashing, and protective granules while producing a more thorough, longer-lasting clean.

Proper roof cleaning should not damage shingles. High-pressure washing can dislodge granules, force water beneath roofing components, and shorten the life of vulnerable materials. A professional soft-wash approach is designed to remove organic staining with low pressure instead. The roof should be assessed first so the cleaning method can be selected for its material, age, visible condition, and surrounding landscape.

Black roof streaks are commonly caused by algae growth, often mixed with dirt and moisture-related buildup. Left untreated, algae can spread and make a roof look older than it is. Moss and lichen may also retain moisture against the surface. Professional low-pressure cleaning targets these organisms and helps restore a more even roof appearance without the risks of aggressive pressure washing.

Many properties benefit from a roof inspection and cleaning every one to three years, though the right interval depends on shade, tree coverage, humidity, roof material, and visible growth. Homes with frequent leaf debris, moss, or recurring algae streaks may need attention sooner. Regular gutter cleaning and removal of loose roof debris can also help support drainage between full roof-cleaning appointments.

Yes. Moss and lichen can be treated with roof-appropriate, low-pressure cleaning methods. Because these organisms can cling tightly to roofing surfaces, they should not be scraped or blasted away aggressively. The treatment works to address the growth while protecting the roof material. Some residue may release gradually after treatment, depending on the roof type and the extent of the buildup.

Combining gutter cleaning with roof cleaning is often a practical choice. Leaves, granules, twigs, and organic debris can move from the roof into gutters and downspouts, restricting water flow. Cleaning both systems helps maintain drainage, reduce overflow, and keep fresh debris from collecting around the roofline. Downspouts should be flushed and checked to confirm water can move away from the structure.

Most residential roof-cleaning visits can be completed in several hours, but timing varies with roof size, pitch, accessibility, material, staining severity, and the amount of moss or debris present. Larger commercial roofs or properties needing gutter service may take longer. Before work begins, the service scope should identify the areas being cleaned and set clear expectations for access, preparation, and completion.

Property owners should move fragile outdoor items, keep windows and doors closed, and ensure pets remain indoors during cleaning. Technicians may ask for access to exterior water and clear access around the home. Nearby plants and landscaping should be identified so they can be protected and rinsed as needed. A pre-service review also helps address parking, gates, roof access, and drainage concerns.
