Siding Power Washing and Soft Wash Services

Yes. Soft washing is commonly used for vinyl siding because it relies on low water pressure and cleaning solutions designed to loosen and treat algae, mildew, pollen, and grime. The gentle rinse helps avoid the risks associated with excessive pressure, such as forcing water behind panels or damaging surface finishes. A professional should still assess oxidation, loose pieces, and existing damage first.

It can if the pressure, nozzle, distance, or technique is wrong for the material. High pressure may crack brittle vinyl, strip paint, scar wood, dislodge caulk, or drive water behind siding. Professional exterior cleaning starts with identifying the siding type and condition. Soft washing is generally preferred for delicate siding, while controlled pressure may be used only on appropriate durable surfaces.

Most homes benefit from professional siding cleaning about every one to two years. Homes beneath trees, near heavily traveled roads, or in damp, shaded conditions may need more frequent service because pollen, dirt, algae, and mildew accumulate faster. Cleaning before buildup becomes established helps preserve appearance and can make routine maintenance easier between professional visits.

Soft washing is effective for common organic and environmental buildup, including algae, mildew, mold, pollen, dirt, cobwebs, insect residue, and many dark streaks. Results can vary with permanent discoloration, oxidation, faded paint, rust, or stains that have chemically altered the surface. A pre-service assessment helps distinguish cleanable buildup from damage or aging that cleaning cannot reverse.

Before service, close all windows and exterior doors, move outdoor furniture and décor away from the work area, and keep pets and people inside. Point out loose siding, leaking fixtures, electrical concerns, or areas needing special care. The crew can explain any additional preparation for plants, outdoor outlets, patios, or nearby vehicles so the cleaning can proceed efficiently and safely.

Many residential siding-cleaning projects can be completed in a few hours, though timing depends on the home’s size, number of stories, access, buildup, and exterior features. Heavily soiled surfaces or detailed areas such as soffits, shutters, porches, and trim can add time. The property should be allowed to dry afterward, especially before painting or other exterior work.

A careful soft-wash process includes protecting surrounding landscaping with preparation, controlled application, and thorough rinsing where needed. Homeowners should identify sensitive plants, ponds, gardens, and outdoor items before work begins. Cleaning solutions must be applied according to the surface and site conditions, rather than broadly sprayed without consideration for nearby vegetation or drainage areas.

Yes. Cleaning is an important preparation step before painting because it removes dirt, chalky residue, mildew, algae, and loose contaminants that can interfere with paint adhesion. The exterior must be fully dry before primer or paint is applied. If washing reveals peeling paint, damaged caulk, or deteriorated siding, those repairs should be addressed before the painting process begins.
